As we approach the Jewish festival of Shavuot (The Feast of Weeks, The Harvest Festival), I felt it most appropriate to discuss Grant Peeples'song
"N...g.....er" Lover. ( I realize that is offensive to some to even write the "N" word ) Shavuot deals with the book of Ruth, in which Ruth the outsider, the stranger, the foreigner is accepted with love by Naomi and joins her and her people. Ruth goes back to Bethlehem with Naomi, marries Boaz and to cut a long story short, becomes the great grandmother of King David , founder of the Kingdom of Israel
At Shavuot,in many places in Israel today, people observe a night long study session, during which aspects of society, religion and norms of behavior are discussed. The subject to be discussed in the vicinity of our radio station is "Acceptance of the Other"- hence the appropriateness of Grant Peeples' song
